I thought this quote from Martin Luther King Jr. was rather fitting for the Defenders of the Wall and its cause. I know many have ridiculed us for what we do here, telling us how we’re overreacting and it’s just a game…and it is just a game…at the end of the day our families, our moral codes and our lives should take precedence over football, of course…but in our moral codes, we stand up for what’s right and for what’s fair off of the field, in our lives, in our families, amongst our friends and especially here at Defenders of the Wall.
We are #PatriotsOfVirtue who strive to hold ourselves to a higher standard and creed, defending our ideals not only against Roger Goodell and the NFL, but in our daily lives as well. From Autism Speaks to Breast Cancer Awareness, to anti-bullying to honoring our fallen soldiers. Of course, nobody at DOTW would dare compare ourselves to the late, great Martin Luther King Jr., but we as a people should mold our actions around his. He too was ridiculed by his peers and by his opposers, but he believed in his cause and he fought back, without violence, in peace and in unity, honoring the true reasons for what this nation was built upon…equality and freedom.
And, he succeeded.
MLK’s way of approaching and tackling his goals, through peace and non-violence has proven to work (as shown with the protectors at the Dakota Pipeline), and while we may want to take Roger Goodell out, even myself sometimes, we must rise above it and lead by example, and be a Patriot of compassion, of diligence, of perseverance, of integrity and of virtue.
So, my fellow Defenders, look to Martin Luther King Jr. today and follow his virtuous examples of love, as we honor him today, on MLK Day, January 16, 2017.
